Switch Studio Before & Afters

Happy Monday! To start off the week, I thought I'd share a few of my recent before and afters that I've completed at Switch Studio...

This sofa {actually there was two of them} was a huge transformation! They were very dated, dirty, and just plain ugly before. The sofas were so unique, the owner couldn't bear to part with them, and I don't blame her. She was so thrilled with the change, that she got a little teary-eyed when I delivered them back to her - How sweet!

These parsons chairs were almost new, but the owner wanted some exciting fabric for two of the set of eight to flank the heads of the table. It's a great way to add some interest without spending a fortune on new seating. They're gorgeous in this new Robert Allen fabric, don't you think?

This little cutie was a b*tch to work on! Everything that could have gone wrong while doing a chair, did, including me cutting my finger and having to take a week off while it healed. Arg. However, I have to say, the result was {almost} worth it! It's for a little girl's bedroom, and I think it will make her very happy!

Making Baskets Cute

Remember on Tuesday, while I was guest posting at Decor Happy, I was chatting about my bathroom cupboards, and I said I'd take you through making the cute basket labels? Well, here we go...

Here are the items you will need: 1. Ruler, 2. Rubber cement, 3. Thicker ribbon in one colour, 4. Thinner ribbon in another colour, 5. Hole punch, 6. Scissors, 7. Exacto knife, 8. Nice white paper, 9. Decorative paper, 10. Cutting mat, 11. Glue gun, 12. Rubber cement eraser, 13. Basket {of course}.

Step 1: Take your basket, and hot glue the thicker of your two ribbons all around the fabric lining. I used the existing seam as a guide to ensure I maintained a straight line and that all my baskets had ribbon in the same spot.

Step 2: Take your thinner ribbon, and hot glue it onto the centre of the thicker ribbon. It creates a nice effect, don't you think?

Step 3: Take the large sheet of nice white paper, cut it down to 8.5" x 11" so that it will run through a printer, and print labels for each basket using a coordinating colour. Use a ruler and exacto knife on your cutting mat to cut out the labels, and slightly larger pieces of the decorative paper, so when you glue them together you can see a nice amount of the pattern.

Step 4: Use the rubber cement, and glue the while labels onto the centre of the decorative paper. Remove any sticky residue with your rubber cement eraser. Using a hole punch, punch a hole in the centre for the ribbon to go through. Using the same method as noted above with the ribbon, make small sections of the decorative ribbon, and insert them into the holes. Using a hot glue gun, glue the ribbon to the back of the label.

Step 5: Using a hot glue gun, glue the ribbon to the underside of the basket liner.

Ta da! Now you're baskets are much more cute, and more you're organized! Easy peasy, no?

Help Me Choose The Perfect Colour

So, at Switch we have a gift from Benjamin Moore for a free can of paint - Yay! The problem is that the offer expires at the end of the month, so we need to pick up some paint lickity split.

Another problem is that we don't have a specific piece to paint, but hey, we're sure to pick up a desk, dresser, or hutch soon enough - Right? Or perhaps you need a piece of furniture painted? - Let us know if you do, we'd love to help!

Anyway, for now I'd like a little help from you deciding on a fun colour that you love and think will be the most versatile to paint a piece of furniture in the future - Here are a few we're trying to choose from...

So, what do you like best? Peacock Blue, Banana Yellow, Tangy Orange {which ties in nicely with the colour of the year} or Coral Gables? They are all so fun, and would look great on the right piece, which makes it so hard to choose. Help a gal out, and let me know your favourite!

My Resolutions For 2012

If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter you may have seen that I cut my finger last Friday pretty badly while working at Switch. Due to my injury, the Doc recommended that I don't use my finger for about 5 to 7 days so that it could heal. So, how does an upholsteress upholster with one hand out of commission? She doesn't. Therefore I have taken this week to work "on" my business, rather than "in" my business, which I've needed to do for quite sometime. While setting goals for Switch for 2012, I decided I'd jot down some personal plans or resolutions too, and here they are...

Be Super-Duper Healthy: I know, I know, this is at the top of everyone's list. I put it on mine because I used to be super-duper healthy - I'd cook healthy meals, use my juicer like it was going outta style, I'd do yoga, pilates, or workout everyday, and I ran 5km at least three times a week! Slowly as Switch started to get busier, I became less focused on my health and basically let Switch take over. At the end of the day, my health is way more important than making sales and upholstering furniture - So, as of January 2nd I've started making exercise and meal planning a main priority again. It's not the end of the world if I start work at 9:00am rather than 8:00am - Right? And besides, there will always be work to complete, so I just have to create the time to workout, not wait for the time to magically appear!

Practice What I Learn: I am a big time learner! I love to read books, magazines, cookbooks, blogs, and even search Pinterest to learn new things - It's a sickness. I have oodles of resources piled up, and never do anything with them. I need to start trying new recipes, spend more time painting, knitting and crafting, sewing just for fun rather than only at work, practice new business strategies, and even meditation techniques! I always think "Oh, I should learn how to ____" and I do, but then I never continue to apply or enjoy what I've learned. I plan to start!

Stay On Top Of Office Work: I'm a creative gal, which translates to: I hate paperwork. Sadly, owning my own business requires me to sit in my office and do boring admin work and stay on top of my finances. I do have an accountant and bookkeeper, but there are still lots of things I must manage on my end. Don't get me wrong, I do it, however I tend to wait until my "To Be Filed" pile is dangerously high - Seriously, some times I close the door as I fear my cat will be buried alive if it ever toppled over. And so, I have actually scheduled admin time into my calendar each week to ensure that I stay on top of things. Cross your fingers for me that it will actually happen!

Simplify And Enjoy: I'm a busy bee, and I'm one of those people who likes to make sure that everything is perfect at all times {with the exception of my "To Be Filed" pile of course}. Lately, I've decided that I need to stop being that person, I need to put less pressure on myself and enjoy life a little more! I actually started this resolution before the New Year - I did not get my house fully decorated for Christmas, and my outdoor planters were never changed over from the Fall season. Gasp! I know. But man it felt good to not panic, let it go, and realize that my world is just as lovely with dead plants in my planters. {Insert sigh of relief here} And I'm hoping without all my crazy pressure to get silly stuff done and make everything pretty all the time, I will have more time to enjoy the little things in life. Whether it's walking to the lake, taking a bike ride to purchase some produce, or just sitting by the fire with a good {non-educational} book and a cup of tea - It's the little things that make life good!

Plan For My Future: Again, I am a creative person, so I tend to get lost in the moment quite often, and never when I think of my future it's usually during a good day dreaming session. I mean, where is the fun and excitement in actually planning and punching numbers? However, if I just wake up each day and live, while merely dreaming about my future, then where am I really headed? I don't know, and that's a little freaky {perhaps I'm maturing as I get older} so I'm planning to plan for my future! I've actually decided to get excited about it, set some goals for my business and life, and really work towards achieving them so that I get what I want out of life as opposed to just dreaming about it. Woot woot I say, woot woot!

And there you have it, my resolutions for 2012! I know it's a little late compared to when most people nail down their resolutions, but better late than never. I'm curious, if you've set resolutions for 2012, then how are they going so far?

My {Lack Of} Christmas Decor

Usually I like to share all the Christmas decor I have going on in my home during the holidays, but this year I'm feeling a little less excited about doing so. I have been silly busy with Switch Studio, and really have had a hard time keeping up with simple around the house tasks, so when it came to decorating for Christmas, I really found it hard to find the time.

Luckily, I saved my popcorn wreath that I made last year. I wasn't sure if it would last, but it did, thank goodness! It looks super cute in my kitchen, don't you think?

I managed to get some of our gifts nicely wrapped. The rest are wrapped, but not nicely. These are the ones that are leaving the house to give to others, so it's important that they are pretty. The ones that we're opening at home are not looking so cute, but hey, they're wrapped!

And the tree is up and decorated too, which is a big relief as I wasn't sure it was going to happen. Luckily Adam and the kids picked one up, and I managed to help with a few of the decorations. It looks the same as last year, as I had no time to get creative and reinvent it, but it works for us!

And I'm sad to say that is all I have going on in my house. Last year I managed to get my mantles done {which you can see HERE} but this year they are bare. Blah. And the cute skate stockings that I had last year {which you can see HERE} have seen better days, and there are a couple of blades and pompoms that have fallen off - Which actually makes me laugh every time I see them because they look so pathetic. I was planning on making us some new stockings {you can see the fabric I chose HERE} along with a matching tree skirt, but I of course ran out of time, so crappy skate stockings it is!

So, there you have my sad little Christmas decor tour! My Weekend In Quebec

Hello to you all - Sorry I have been slacking on my posts, I've just been so busy at Switch wrapping up projects before my Christmas Holiday's start. Anyway, I thought I'd quickly share bits of my weekend getaway with you because I finally managed to get the photos in order. Here goes...

We stayed at the Auberge Saint Antoine Hotel in the heart of Quebec City's Old Port, and loved it!
1. It was decorated for Christmas throughout the hotel, which was perfect for a cold weekend.
2. There were a few cozy lounge rooms at the hotel bar for relaxing in - Perfect for hot totties.
3. Another lounge area, I just adore the moose pillows - Very Canadian.
4. Our bathroom was very stylish, I'd like to recreate the look in my home.
5. Our room was perfectly cozy - Check out the sweet window leading out to the balcony.

While in Quebec, we packed in a lot of fun into a short visit!
1. We visited Moisan, which is the oldest grocery store in North America {1871}, it was darling.
2. We dined at the cutest restaurants, including Le Lapin Saute thanks to the recommendation of one of my sweet readers Rymistri@la vie en fuchsia. It was very hard for me to find anything vegetarian, but I did {mushroom ravioli} and it was delicious!
3. We enjoyed stopping into shops to get warm drinks for our shopping adventure, and macaroons were always a part of those stops - Yum!
4. We strolled the city both day and night, but I have to say, night was the most magical.
5. And we visited the Christmas Market in Vieux Port, thanks to the recommendation from yet another sweet reader lolo. It was packed full of wonderful goodies!

Between the shopping and exploring we had a whole lot of French cuisine {which was all very bad for our waist-line, but oh so delicious}!

1. The french onion soup was so very good.

2. Poutine was a must, of course. Actually we had a few servings while on this trip - Eek.

3. Crepes were my favourite thing on the breakfast menu at Panache.

4. Okay, this is not technically a French dish, but I had to include it because of the birthday sparkler - C'est bon, non?

5. And last but not least, I drank warm drinks from a bowl whenever I could. Why is there not more of this in the Toronto area? Love it!

And there you have it - My birthday weekend! If you ever get the chance to visit Quebec City, do visit Auberge Saint Antoine Hotel, dine at Le Lapin Saute and Panache, and shop at Esther P {I managed to do some serious damage there, so beware}. Happy Birthday Weekend To Me

Yesterday was my birthday, and for a birthday treat Adam is whisking me away to Quebec City for the weekend!

I'm really looking forward to walking around the old cobblestone streets, having great dinners, and of course a little shopping!

If you're in Oakville this weekend, be sure to stop in at Elm Hill Cookies {located at 250 Kerr Street} on Sunday for their one year anniversary party!

And what's really fun is that we made some things for the party at Switch Studio! We made the table runner {shown in the photo} that can be won along with the gorgeous gingerbread house that Elm Hill is giving away to a lucky winner. Also, for the first 25 people at the event you get swag bags full of goodness, including a cup cozy {shown on cup in the photo} from Switch Studio. I'm actually pretty sad I'll be missing all the fun. If you do go, enjoy, and tell the Elm Hill peeps I say hello!

About My Week

Last week, sweet Lindsey from Recreated passed on the Versatile Blogger Award to me {you can see her post HERE} - I'm honoured! I'm now supposed to share seven things about myself, but I'm going to switch it up, as I have shared things about myself HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE before. So, I thought it would be fun to share one thing from each day of my week {last week that is}, so here we go...

1. Sunday: I went to the One Of A Kind Show, which I absolutely adored. While I was there picked up these goodies {see my official post HERE}!

2. Monday: I did some drilling! I love using power tools, and the drill is my favourite tool of them all - It was a good day!

3. Tuesday: I couldn't resist purchasing myself these sweet little bookends from Chapters - Aren't they cute?

4. Wednesday: I picked up this fabric to create some Christmas goodies - I hope I can find the time to do so before Christmas is here. Cross your fingers for me and stay tuned!

5. Thursday: I purchased my first bottle of eggnog for the season. I love eggnog, so I was very happy to have a glass when I returned from grocery shopping. Delish!

6. Friday: I picked up some gorgeous muted {although it looks quite bright in this photo} teal alpaca cotton for a future project, and started knitting a hat. I started knitting last year {see the post HERE} and am pretty excited to be starting more pieces!

If you're in the Oakville area and would like wonderful, top quality yarn, or would like knitting lessons, head to Knit One Bead Too downtown Oakville on Dunn Street. That is where I shop, and where I learned to knit - The owner is a wonderful teacher, and knitting not as hard as I thought it would have been, I actually find it very relaxing.

7. Saturday: This was the best day of my week by far! I picked up this 1950's sewing machine as an early birthday treat {thanks Mum}! I am so very delighted to have such a special piece, and she works like a dream, which is even better.

I have a weird thing about naming my machines - I have a little domestic machine named Mary, which is after my Grandmother who bought it for me on my 14th birthday, and an industrial machine named Ruby after my Grandmother's birthstone.

I wanted to name this machine after it's previous owner who recently passed, but I purchased it at an estate sale, and no one working there knew her name. So, as I was thinking of an alternate name, I looked up and saw a painting of roses - Which is funny, because the woman who told me about the estate sale's last name is Rose! So, I went with that. But then I received an email letting me know the previous owner's name was Erika, and I had to honour her too. So, I've gone with Erika-Rose, and I think it suits her! Don't you?

So there you go, seven things about my week! Now, I'm supposed to pass this award along to others, but to be quite honest I've really been out of the blogger loop lately as I've just been so busy with work and life. Sigh. Sad I know. Perhaps you have seen Caitlin Wilson's Textiles by now, but I was on her site last night swooning and realizing that I am totally jealous of her gorgeous collection {in a good and inspiring way of course} and thought I'd post about it...

I mean oh my goodness! Who wouldn't swoon over her collection? Sigh.

I have a big, long list of dreams, aspirations, and things I'd like to do in my career. One Of A Kind Show Buys

Happy Monday! Over the weekend I hit the One Of A Kind Show, and thoroughly enjoyed it {as usual}. I thought I would share my three favorite Artisans, and what I purchased from each of them...

I got this gorgeous fold-over clutch bag from Scout & Catalogue, and I cannot wait until Spring to use I use it {I don't think it's a very wintery piece, but I love it so I had to get it now}! It is from their "Scavenger Collection" which means it is made using fabrics found in thrift stores, and upcycled into these bags. I love the eco factor, as well as the fact that they are a limited edition.

This darling little "Berries Bucket" I'm now using to hold my knitting stuff is from Jenna Rose, and it's probably my favourite purchase! Jenna draws the patterns, then does all of the dying, screen printing, and sewing for each piece by hand - A truly creative and talented gal. It's just so special to purchase a piece you know was made with so much heart.

Last, but not least, I picked up this sweet little zippered bag from Lovell and I'll be using it as my new makeup bag when I travel. The patterns from Lovell are bright and fun, so it was hard to choose, but I'm pretty darn happy with the pink chevron - Cute, right?

Every year I am drawn to bags, textiles, and paper products - I just can't get enough. I also love going just to soak up the creative energy that surrounds the show. It's amazing seeing so many talented Artisans under one roof!

Back From Atlantis

Hello my sweets, I'm baaaack! I had a great time away, and to be honest, I was so busy having fun that I really didn't get many photos. But, here are some snippets regarding my trip I did manage to capture on my camera...

As you know, we stayed at Atlantis. I must say overall the resort is ridiculously large, and super tacky, but we were there to have fun, not to be impressed by the decor. The funny part was that it was decorated for Christmas - I'm used to seeing snow during the holidays, so it made me chuckle to see Christmas stuff in 30 degree weather surrounded by people in beachwear.

Pretty much everywhere you turn while out and about at Atlantis you see marine life, which was pretty cool! I had never seen sting rays, sharks, or dolphins in person before, so I was in awe.

There is so much to do on the resort, it was impossible to do everything on our list. We did manage to spend lots of time at the beach, hanging in the lazy river, and hitting the shops and restaurants. Not to mention some exciting activities like crazy-fast water slides, snorkeling, and the highlight for me - Swimming with dolphins!

We had a blast! It is certainly not a place to go if you're looking to relax, but it's sure packed full of fun. If you have kids and have not been to Atlantis, you should go, they will love it {almost as much as you will}!

Atlantis Bahamas

Adam and I are off with the kids, and Adam's whole family, to Atlantis in the Bahamas to celebrate Adam's brother's 50th birthday! I've been looking forward to it for a while now, but when I went to do this post I decided to check out the website a little further, and now I'm even more pumped to go! I didn't know they had so many fun things to do there - Check it out...

Over the weekend I came across a super cool store that recently opened in Soho, called C. Wonder, and I thought I'd share it with you!

As you can see the store is designed beautifully, and would be super fun to shop in. I think my favourite item I can spot in the store is the floral scooter - Don't you love it?

Aside from the scooter, there are plenty of sweet items to shop for. Yep, I'm loving C. Wonder, and cannot wait to make my way back to Soho to do a little shopping! Apparently we'll be able to shop at C. Wonder online sometime before Christmas, but I'm not sure if they'll ship to Canada, I sure hope so - I could add a few of these items to my Christmas wish list. How about you?

Switch Studio Before & Afters

I've been pretty busy with Switch Studio lately, and I've made over so many cute pieces for clients, so I thought I'd share a few with you...

These were not so pretty, but after a little Switch Studio magic they're perfect as end chairs for a newly designed dining room!

This baby was found on the side of the road, and was looking a little rough - Now it's a perfect edition to my client's home!

This little telephone table had major potential, and I think the after photo proves it! I absolutely adore this piece, and now that it's made over, the owners adore it too!

A True Switch Studio Original

Happy Friday to you all! Today I want to share a bed I recently created for a client from scratch. That's right, from scratch! My dear client contacted me and asked if I could make her a bed, of course I said sure, even though I had never made a bed from scratch before, I knew I could figure it out - and figure it out I did!

Here's what my team at Switch Studio and I did...

The frame and headboard was constructed using FSC certified Canadian Maple, and the fact that it was made all by hand means it is done with great care, so this baby is going to last!

We then upholstered it {of course} and added a beautiful decorative tacking detail all around the edge!

Next, we put it all together to make sure it fit and was secure. Needless to say, it passed all of our tests.

And voila - A true Switch Studio original piece! Our client was thrilled with her new bed, and I'm pretty proud of it too! What do you think?

Amangiri

Well, it is Wednesday, and as promised I'm sharing with you the most amazing place I've ever been to - Amangiri {which means peaceful mountain}! While on our road trip we stayed at 4 different places, but nothing compared to this place {in fact nowhere I've ever stayed has compared to this place}...

This is a shot looking into our room from outside of the patio. Adam went out there in flip flops to take this shot, and got covered in prickly cactus things - It is the desert after all. I love how the doors open all the way, and what's even better is that it was warm enough to do so!

Here is a closer shot of the room. It was beautiful - So sleek, modern and ultra cool. Oh, and the bed was perfection, we're actually purchasing the mattress pad and feather topper to try and recreate the luxurious sleep environment at home. {If you're looking for an unbelievably comfortable bed, let me know and I can send you the details}

We spent the evening watching the sunset from our patio - The colours were breathtaking!

The grounds did not disappoint, they were equally as sleek and cool as the room was! They specifically designed it to not compete with it's surroundings, and it certainly was very calming and zen like.

Amangiri is a small boutique resort with only 35 rooms, but is located on over 600 acres! It was actually pretty funny because as we were driving in I asked Adam if we were lost, there was literally nothing around and no sign of a resort anywhere. It is so very remote, you really do get absolute peace and quiet, and it's remote location is perfect for celebs - Our waiter mentioned we just missed Brad and Angelina!

We spent most of our time hanging by the pool and reading during the day. And I've never seen a pool area as stunning as this one! I love how they built it around the rock.

And it looked even more amazing at night while we had dinner! Don't you think?

Sigh. I still wish I was there. The good news is I have a lotto ticket in my wallet, and I'm feelin' lucky!

Ring Love

I've always had a thing for hollow rings. My daily ring is the Sevillana Ring by Elsa Peretti {who has a degree in Interior Design}, which my mother bought for me as a Design School graduation gift. So, it is no surprise that I have a major love for Diane Kordas rings right now!

Upcycling Challenge

As you know I pretty much complete DIY and upcycle projects everyday at Switch Studio {and absolutely love doing so}, so I was pretty excited to see this fantastic challenge from Earth Day Canada...

That's right - A contest for turning something from garbage to gorgeous! Projects will be judged on three categories: Most Upcycled, Most Inventive, and Best Makeover. There are some great prizes up for grabs, like...

A Panasoic 18V drill with driver kit and a cordless jigsaw - Mmm hmm, every DIYer's dream! Fall Must Haves

Well, it is officially Fall! I am pretty excited as Fall is my favourite season, it's time to cozy up, eat warm comfort food, and enjoy the home once again. And so I thought I'd share a few of my Fall must haves for enjoying some crisp nights indoors...

1. A Mug Cozy - I don't have one yet, despite the fact that they are ridiculously cute. I plan to make

myself one soon, as I learned to knit last year and am looking for a little project or two.

2. Candles - I do love all the candles that Anthro has {like the one in the image} and think they look

gorgeous, but in my home I like to use natural products, so I purchase Pacifica Candles {their's just

didn't look as nice in my grouping}.

3. Books - Oh yes, I have lots of books lined up on my e-reader! I'm currently reading Yoga Bitch,

I think The Paris Wife will be next, and I'm looking forward to The Help, The Happiness Project,

Look Again, One Day... And the list goes on. Have you read any of these? What are you reading

now? And what do you recommend I add to my ever growing, unbelievably long list?

4. A Comfy Blanket - I have a few comfy blankets kicking around, but I'm really in love with this

Brahms Mount one I have shown. It's been on my want list for a while, my biggest problem would

be committing to just one - They have too many beautiful colours to choose from.

Help Others, Go Shopping

Every time the seasons change I look in my closet and wonder "What the heck did I wear last year?" Seriously, is it just me, or do you never have anything to wear at the start of a new season? It's like whatever I wore last year {and for the life of me I cannot remember what those items may have been} literally walked themselves out of my closet. Crazy!

Anyway, the good thing about that ladies, is that we get to shop! And I'm going to be sure to shop from these charitable and stylish retailers this year...

At Toms Shoes, if you buy a pair of shoes then a child in poverty receives a pair too - Love that! And I also love my Toms, they are the most comfy shoes ever, I wear mine everyday while working in my upholstery studio. I'm thinking a second pair are a must!

Feed products help to feed those in need all around the world - Amazing! In 2007 when Feed was started, they raised enough money to feed over 37,500 hungry children for one full year - Can you imagine changing that many lives in just one year? It must be so rewarding!

And last but certainly not least, Warby Parker gives a pair of glasses to people who do not have access to them each time a pair are sold - Very sweet! There are roughly one billion people who don't have access to glasses, and they cannot effectively learn or work because the can't see properly. Warby Parker hopes to give glasses to all of those one billion people.

Mmm hmm, shopping at these places is way more rewarding and a better way to spend my money then heading to a designer department store. Don't you agree? Well, perhaps I'll hit the designer stuff too, but only after I've done a few good shopping deeds!

The Second Bake-N-Blog Day

Well, the day is finally here, it's time to reveal the recipes we all tried during this year's Bake-N-Blog! I chose Lemon Almond Cookies, and I am so very happy I did - They were everything I could want in a cookie, and more. Here is how by experience went...

First I got all of my ingredients laid out, I find this makes things run more smoothly as I go, and keeps me nice and organized - Just the way I like it.

Next I let my mixer do it's thing and combine everything into a superbly tasty cookie dough.

Then, the recipe calls for each cookie to be rolled in sugar that has been massaged with lemon rind. And I must say this was the best part! The lemon sugar was so deliciously fragrant it felt as though I was getting some kind of aroma therapy done - Loved it!

There they are, all ready to get baked!

And here they are after - Perfection! Although, the recipe said to bake them for 7 to 9 minutes, which I found to be too short a time, so I went for 12 minutes. And the recipe said to bake the cookie balls as they were, but I smushed mine down a little and found the middles baked nicer, less doughy.

These babies were truly scrumptious, which is why there are empty spots on the cooling racks! Once Adam and the kids heard the oven door open, these little cookies didn't stand a chance.

Needless to say they became a fast favorite after dinner ritual! They had the perfect amount of crispness to the outside, and the perfect amount of chewiness on the inside. They had a delightful fresh lemony flavour, and were not too sweet {despite the fact they are covered in sugar}. I would highly recommend these cookies to anyone and everyone - I think that they are such a favourite that they will be added into my regular Christmas baking ritual and passed out to friends and family each year. Delish!

Map & Places Art

I've had "DIY Art Project" on my list for-ev-er! Here are a few ideas that I have in my inspiration collection that use maps and places...

I would love to have a whole wall of these for each place that I've been, and of course add to it over the years!

This is a great project, and I do love the look, but I'm note sure where I'd put it. It would be cool in an industrial type work space, for a company that did business world wide, but can't see it in my home - Although it is really cool!

I'd love to frame a world map, and embroider a heart around where Adam and I were born. It would be kind of like this as I was born in Toronto and Adam was born in England, and yes, I would add the connecting line - Too cute!

This would be a great project to fill a small area, or add into a gallery wall showcasing all the places I've been!

A Little Bit Of Switch

As you probably have noticed I have been lacking a bit in my online life, and the reason is because I am super busy! Of course I am busy with design work, which is wonderful, but what is really exciting is the launch of my new division, Switch Studio {my website is almost complete, so stay tuned}. I have been working hard on getting everything lined up, and of course working on furniture pieces when I'm not busy with SED work. Here are a few of my favorite before and after photos of pieces I've completed recently...

This was an old public library chair that really needed some Switch love - Now it fits perfectly into it's owners stylish home!

This came to me partially stripped and looking pretty sad - It certainly doesn't look sad anymore, does it? And I must say it is the most comfortable {down filled} chair I have ever sat it - Yes, I tushie test each piece before it goes out.

Originally this headboard was far from fun - Now it's super fun and totally suits it's new home in Florida! That is correct, I do custom pieces for clients all over Canada and the United States {of course shipping charges apply}.

I maybe busy, but I'm absolutely loving every minute of it! I'm looking forward to creating a nice balance between both businesses and really focusing on the aspects I enjoy the most. In the mean time, know that you are missed by me on my strict work only days. I must say that I'm so very lucky to be able to do what I love, and I thank each and every one of you for your support!

New Home Agenda

A while back I read a terrific post by Megan at Honey We're Home about starting a home management notebook and daily agenda to organize and plan her time relating to running her home, which totally inspired me to do the same! As far as I'm concerned...

I am a very organized person, and have an agenda for work related stuff, but I found home and private stuff creeping into my work agenda from time to time, or I'd just make to do lists for house stuff, which never really worked well. The reason I like having an actual agenda is that it helps me to set daily goals, have everything in one spot, and once I write it down I don't have to keep the thought in my head - Don't you hate spending your day thinking things like "dry cleaning, birthday card for Kristi, and milk" over and over? I do!

So, I decided to buy a new agenda to use just for running my household and private matters {Thanks for the inspiration Megan}, and this is what I got...

It is from Red Star Ink and I got it from their Etsy Shop, cute right? I love that it is a nice, simple, and clean design that allows me to make mini lists and check them off each day {I am such a list gal}. It is also made by hand {by the owner and designer Marcie, who is a doll} from 100% recycled materials, which makes me super happy. Also, it's a "fill-in-the-date" calendar, so I was able to start organizing my time as soon as it arrived, which was great because I was pretty excited to get started!

I have been using it for a few weeks now, and I'm more organized at home and saving lots of time, and therefore delighted! The biggest change that is saving me the most time is that on Sunday night I plan what meals I will make for the week and create a shopping list for Monday - This way I only shop once and am sure to have everything I need for the week. I used to hit Whole Foods at least 3 or 4 times a week, now I spend that time on more important things, which is great!

Iam so excited to be writing a guest post on Staci’s fabulous blog today. Whenshe asked me to choose my favourite interior I thought it would be so easy. Ifall in love with many images online thanks to my addiction to pinterest.However, finding a home that I loved proved to be way more difficult than I expected.I would find one home and think: yes! And then I would spot a chandelier Ihated or a piece of art that wasn’t ‘me’.

Mypersonal style would probably be described as seaside cottage: lots of softpastel colours, painted furniture, floral and striped fabrics. So you may besurprised with the interior that I fell in love with. I know I was.

This1904 fisherman's cottage was completely redone in a black and white scheme. Ilove the overall cozy, relaxed feel of the home, don’t you? Even though it isso far from my usual style, I could see myself living here very happily. But Iwould keep all chalk well out of reach of my children.

While I was away last weekend I took some time to catch up on reading my magazines. One that I subscribe to is Elle Decor, and in it was Courtney Cox's new Malibu home, and I must say I have fallen in love!

I'm thinking that it would be fairly easy for me to paint one myself, yet another thing to add to my to do list!

The main living area, kitchen and dining room are all so perfect! As a designer I tend to work with a lot of colour during most days, so a neutral palette really speaks to me. {Remember my office? It is very neutral with a lot of white, grey, and small touches of black.} And don't you love, love, love the artwork in the dining room? That too would be easy to recreate - Gosh, I am such an art knocker-offer!

The master bedroom carries the same beauty and grace as the rest of the home does. I could easily relax in here! The french mattress bench seat has me wanting to redo my own window seat in that same style - Don't you think it's gorgeous?

And of course, what would a Malibu home be without a glorious backyard that is perfect for entertaining. I love the idea of having an enclosed kitchen that opens up to the yard, especially with Canadian winters, it's a great idea. Oh, and what I would do for that view!

Simplyan elegant mix of natural materials married with modern style. I just love themood and feel that each room possesses, with the calming of the colourscombined with the washed out raw resources. This is truly a favourite, not onlybecause I love white, but how perfectly they have created charm and balancewithin each room. I love thewashed out wood planks on the island and then mimicked on the walls to createthat focal point of interest in each space. The fresh light airy colour is thefirst attraction but then if you look closer the lighting choice in each room isanother unexpected conversation starter. Having two different designs styles inthe kitchen and dining room is something that is a definite unanticipatedlighting decision, especially being that close in proximity. I just love thehanging side pendants in the bedroom! However the kitchen is what sold the showfor me, I have a fatal attraction to the flow and clean lines. I can so see myselfenjoying this space as a chalet or cottage taking in the view of Mount-Tremblant!Purely Peaceful! This space is a relaxing therapeutic get away that would putanyone in a calming state of mind!

Summer Weekend Bliss

Over the weekend Adam and I had the best time up North at a resort called Taboo. Because we don't have a cottage, we tend to head to resorts in cottage country to have some fun close to home during the sumer, and Taboo is our favorite.

The view from our balcony was perfect, I am always so happy to be on the water - It's good for the soul.

We rented a sea-doo and hit the water for some fun! It's such a great refreshing way to enjoy the sun while staying cool.

Today we have Ana from Second Wind here sharing her favorite interior! Ana is an Oakville gal {like me} and is such a wonderful person to know. Ana has a space that I haven't seen before, so I hope it's new to you as well - Take it away Ana...

When Staci asked me to pick a favourite room, my thoughts immediately went to some ofthe amazing designers I admire – Kelly Wearstler, Barbara Barry, Miles Redd,Darryl Carter, Mary MacDonald to name a few. However, I had recently read an article in Elle Décormagazine titled the 5 Designers to Watch 2011, and found that Sara Story notonly had a beautiful portfolio, but an intriguing life story as well.

This stunning designercould have been a model. Born inJapan and years of extensive travel influenced her design aesthetic from a veryyoung age and gave her a great appreciation for cultural design. This New York based designer, haslived in several countries across the globe and today she even plays on aninternational women’s elephant polo team – who knew there even was such athing?! In case you can’t pictureit – here’s a shot at the Kings Cup Elephant Polo Tournament.

Her penchant for decorating started young, alwaysexperimenting with paint and moving things around her family home and then curiouslystrolling down the street to find out what treasures were behind the beautifuldoors of her Texas neighbourhood (my mom also has some great stories of medoing the same, but I digress!).

Sara developed her craft while working for renowned NewYork designer Victoria Hagan before starting her own business. Her specialty is eclectic spacescombining pieces from different eras and cultures, which is something I alsolove do – otherwise known as “design mixology”. I decided to feature one of my favourite projects of Sara’s…her own 650 square foot condo in Gramercy Park.

This is not your average galley kitchen! Can we start with “Who does this?!” I bet the painter called beforestarting to ask “Are you sure I have the right ceiling colour?” I do love thedrama of that plum ceilingjuxtaposed against the graphic floor. Given all the light flooding in withthese giant windows and the white walls, this small kitchen is big on style andglamour. The black chairs reallyground the table and offer some subtle curves against the clean lines of thisshowstopping kitchen.

What a great way to addsome fun to a tiny office nook. The shimmering silver paper makes it seem as though the you aresurrounded by water filled with beautiful silver fish (might be quite serene ifyou enjoy marine life while you “surf”). The wonderfulthing about graphic wallpaper is that it’s great for camoflaging smallimperfections in the wall or in this case, disguising the cupboards. This is a great way to create interest where space isat a minimum – make the walls and floors work hard to establish the mood forthe space, then add simple furnishings in a solid colour to complete the look(white always works).

I’ve always told my clientsthat the powder room is the perfect space to experiment with colour, texturesand pattern because it doesn’t have to match with the rest of the home. Without the lacquered redpaint, this bathroom’s wood panels would still be beautiful and elegant, butnowhere near as interesting and definitely not as striking. I love how the antique brass fixtures,lighting and vanity stand adds glamour to the space and really make it feelspecial. The graphic floor patternhelps enlarge the space and continues the bold geometric theme we saw on thekitchen floor…it’s a nice little surprise when you walk in. The vintage ceiling pendant bringsextra glamour to the space as well – why not? Overall, the red also allows the white marble counter to standout while simple black trim on the mirror and picture frame provide the perfectcontrast. The final touch is boldartwork –just gorgeous!

This whole room is so inviting and really lookscurated over time! The furnitureis, in fact, from different eras and cultures (which I mentioned above) and thecolours are carried from other parts of the house perfectly to create flow fromone room to another. I love black trimmed windows and doorsfor their ability to define a space and the graphic effect it sets on thespace. The layered rugs andmulti-fabric sofa makes this eclectic room really come alive. Large artwork is also a favorite ofmine and with the fabulous artists on Etsy these days, there is something tosuit everyone’s taste and budget.

So I’ve also added Sara Story to my list of designersto watch and, lesson learned – go bold or go home!

Needless to say my eggs were not nearly as adorable as these ones are! Has anyone seen these before, and if so know where to get them? I think they would be just darling for my future birthday breakfast in bed {hint hint to Adam and the kids}!
