IDS11 - Inspiration

Today the IDS review will continue and I am going to share with you the two spaces I found most inspirational.  If you went to IDS then you probably saw these spaces {unless you were not willing to line up, which I wouldn't blame you for at some points}, and if you missed them, enjoy!

The above space was done by interior designer David Dixon and his brother David who is a fashion designer, and the collaboration turned out beautifully!  Their space was inspired by the story of Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes {if you are unaware of the story, click the link to read, it's very touching} and yes, there are in fact one thousand paper cranes suspended from the lattice ceiling.  And no, the Dixon brothers did not make all of these cranes, they were folded by Ryerson Design Students.

And this space was done by non other than Sarah Richardson and her brother Theo who is an industrial designer.  They collaborated on this space to show how to use edgy industrial pieces {Theo's products} within a soft residential space {Sarah's design} - and the result was perfection - No surprise there.

Did you see these spaces at IDS? If so, did you prefer one over the other?  I couldn't really pick, they were both so beautiful in their own way.

  2. I loved all the cranes on the ceiling and the playful shadows they cast on the walls. It was a beautiful room and took my breath away when I entered the room.

  4. Totally love the first few rooms by Dixon! and I love Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes - nice to see that such a forgotten piece of fiction can still be a source of inspiration!

  7. These were my two Sibling Revelry favourites too :-) I love the origami cranes in the Dixon brothers space, and the mirror with with big chain link frame was really cool. The whole space had a hip & glam vibe :-)

Sarah & Theo's space was so colourful. I love how they used a primary colour for each individual room. The RBW light fixtures in the dining room were great, and I love the polar bear artwork in the study :-)

Thanks for sharing your pics - I didn't get very many good shots of Sarah & Theo's space -- too busy schmoozing with Tommy and trying to get a picture taken with Sarah!

  9. I've always loved curved sofas and this room is fantastic. Noticed that Sarah is using more bright, clear colours lately...she's always been known for pastels...interesting

  10. I loved both the spaces as well. I think the Dixon space was more of the city house and Richardson space was more country home. Therefore I would like both...
Great to meet you on Thursday night! Hopefully next time we can get a chance to really have a chat.
